Special Drinks Launch: “Threads of Art” Collection
On November 5, 2025, the Embassy of Japan in Saudi Arabia endorsed the special workshop “Threads of Art Collection,” hosted by ŌKAWA Cafe to commemorate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Saudi Arabia. Ambassador Morino and his spouse attended the event.
The workshop, designed to introduce traditional Japanese craftsmanship to the Saudi public, featured Japanese artists Silsil and Kimusubi, who led a collaborative session combining mizuhiki (decorative Japanese cords) and origami. Participants folded traditional pochibukuro envelopes using specially designed origami paper printed with Silsil’s artwork, and created decorative pieces under Yui’s guidance, experiencing firsthand the delicacy and depth of Japanese craftsmanship.
An exhibition of works by both artists was held at the venue, captivating visitors with their distinctive creative expressions. To mark this collaboration, ŌKAWA Cafe also launched three special drinks inspired by Japanese aesthetics on the same day. Each drink is accompanied by an A6-sized collectible card featuring the artists’ work and signatures, available at all ŌKAWA branches through the end of November.
This workshop served as a meaningful opportunity for cultural exchange, where traditional Japanese craft, contemporary art, and the creative spirit of Saudi Arabia came together—deepening mutual understanding and strengthening the cultural ties between the two countries.
