The Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (Monbukagakusho) - (MEXT) offers several different scholarships for Saudi students wishing to study in Japan. Especially there are 4 types of scholarships through our embassy.

Japanese Scholarship for Research Students

The Government of Japan offers scholarships to those who wish to pursue their post-graduate studies at Japanese universities. This scholarship program is part of the efforts by the Government of Japan to strengthen bilateral relations and mutual understanding between Japan and Saudi Arabia.

The scholarship will be provided for 24 months (from April 2009 to March 2011) or 18 months (from October 2009 to March 2011). Scholarship grantees will receive monthly stipend, in addition to a round-trip air ticket (economy class) to Japan. School tuition fees will be covered by the Government of Japan.

Applicants must be of Saudi nationality. (Those of other nationality should contact the Japanese Embassy in their respective countries.)

Applicants must be born on or after 2 April 1974, and must be graduates from Japanese universities or have academic ability equal or superior to that of universities’graduates.

Those who meet the above qualifications and wish to apply for this scholarship must read the guideline carefully and submit all required documents to the Embassy of Japan in Riyadh by 4 June 2008. Japanese Scholarship for Undergraduate Students

The Government of Japan offers scholarships to those who wish to pursue their undergraduate studies at Japanese universities. This scholarship program is part of the efforts by the Government of Japan to strengthen bilateral relations and mutual understanding between Japan and Saudi Arabia.

The scholarship will be provided for 5 years (from April 2009 to March 2014) including the preliminary instruction in the Japanese language and other subjects for one year. Students majoring in Medicine, Dentistry or Veterinary Medicine will be provided with the scholarship for 7 years until March 2016.

Scholarship grantees will receive monthly stipend, in addition to a round-trip air ticket (economy class) to Japan. School tuition fees will be covered by the Government of Japan.

Applicants must be of Saudi nationality. (Those of other nationality should contact the Japanese Embassy in their respective countries.)

Applicants must be in the age group (born between 2 April 1987 and 1 April 1992), and must have completed a 12-year regular course of school education.

Those who meet the above qualifications and wish to apply for this scholarship must read the guideline and submit all required documents to the Embassy of Japan in Riyadh by 4 June 2008. Japanese Scholarship for Teacher-Training

The Government of Japan offers scholarships to Saudi students who wish to conduct research on school education at Japanese universities. This scholarship program is part of the efforts by the Government of Japan to strengthen bilateral relations and mutual understanding between Japan and Saudi Arabia.

Applicants must be of Saudi nationality. (Those of other nationality should contact the Japanese Embassy in their respective countries.)

Applicants must be born on or after April 2, 1972 and a graduate of a university or a teacher-training school and have worked as a teacher of an elementary or secondary educational institution or a teacher-training school in his/her home country for at least five years in total as of April 1, 2008. (In-service professors are not eligible.)

Those who read the Application Guideline carefully and meet the qualifications and wish to apply for this scholarship must submit all required documents to the Embassy of Japan in Riyadh by 13 February 2007. They are also available at the Embassy of Japan in Riyadh or the Consulate General of Japan in Jeddah. We will hold screening test including paper examinations and interview on 20 February 2007 at Embassy of Japan in Riyadh.

Japanese Scholarship for Japanese Studies Students

The Government of Japan offers scholarships to those who wish to receive education at Japanese universities for enhancing their Japanese language ability and understanding of Japan and Japanese culture. This scholarship program is part of the efforts by the Government of Japan to strengthen bilateral relations and mutual understanding between Japan and Saudi Arabia.

The term is one year or less from October, 2008 (the starting month for training courses) that is necessary to complete each university's training course. (Extension of terms is not admitted.)

Applicants must be of Saudi nationality. (Those of other nationality should contact the Japanese Embassy in their respective countries.)

Applicants must be born from April 2, 1978 to April 1, 1990 and undergraduate at a foreign (non-Japanese) university majoring in fields related to Japanese language or Japanese culture at the time of arriving in and leaving Japan.

Those who meet the above qualifications and wish to apply for this scholarship must submit all required documents to the Embassy of Japan in Riyadh by 13 February 2007.
